Girls Progress to Mini-7s finals

Posted on Wednesday, October 04, 2017

Today we sent our mini-7s camogie team to take part in the Cappatagle Blitz. There were 8 teams in Cappatagle today: Eyrecourt, Clonfert, Gurteen, Esker, Portumna, Brackloon, Cappatagle and Kiltullagh. There were 13 blitzes run today all over the county and over 100 schools were taking part.
We started with a local challenge against Clonfert. Despite our apprehensions we came away with a good win: 5 goals and 3 points to no score. We then played Esker and had a convincing win of 7 goals and 5 points to no score. Our final match in our group was against Gurteen and another win of  6 goals and 1 point to no score.
Our support team of Ogie (bus driver) and Joan warned us about the winner of the other group: Portunma. They were very strong and we knew we were up against it. The half -time score was only 2 points to 1 point to us. However we stuck together and came out with a win of 2 goals and 6 points to their 1 point.
We go now to Loughgeorge on Friday 20th October to play a blitz with the winners of the other 12 groups. The overall winner will be the best team in all of Galway. The boys won this competition in 2013, hopefully this is our year!
