We are extremely proud to be a DEIS Rural (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools) school, demonstrating our commitment to ensuring all children have equal access to advanced opportunities and can reach their full potential. As part of this, our teachers automatically receive specialised training to support literacy and numeracy development, improve school leadership, and encourage family involvement in shaping school policies.

Rural DEIS specifically focuses on the unique challenges faced by schools in rural areas, such as fewer local resources, limited access to services, and geographical isolation. The initiative helps these schools improve educational outcomes for students in rural communities by offering targeted interventions, enhanced teaching supports, and increased engagement with families.

Our school receives additional funding yearly to advance amenities, learning equipment and student-school experiences.

Students of Eyrecourt NS can avail of a Free Summer Camp, thanks to our DEIS Funding. This further creates equal opportunities and summer fun for all students.

Our School has offered Free School Lunches since receiving DEIS Status and now is actively providing healthy sandwiches, snacks and fruit through the ‘School Meals Programme’.

Our Teachers have additional training, some brief examples include: Dyslexia Tutoring; Youth First Aid; Braincalm occupational therapy, Incredible Years and Restorative Practice.

DEIS schools are given some priority in education initiatives and projects.  We have availed of the Creative Schools Project, Brics/LEGO learning and are currently involved in the EU-SIDE (European Social Innovation & Democratic Education) project.
