At our school, we believe that extra-curricular activities are an essential part of every child's education, helping to develop their skills, creativity, and confidence in ways that go beyond the classroom. We understand that these activities not only offer fun and excitement but also teach valuable life skills like teamwork, responsibility, and perseverance.

School Elections, ROBOTICS, DIY

We also encourage active participation in our school elections, where students learn about democracy by voting for their peers. Our food-growing and cookery programmes teach children about healthy eating and sustainability, while programmes like Robotics and DIY introduce them to technology, problem-solving, and hands-on learning.

Music, Dance, Drama and Art

For our younger students, we offer a variety of engaging activities that help them explore new interests and talents. During their time here, the children will have the opportunity of learning to play the ukulele and tin whistle, building both their musical abilities and confidence in performance. Our Drama programme is another highlight, where children work with a drama teacher to produce a staged show every second year, helping them develop their creativity and teamwork skills.

Afterschool activities for Pupils

Eyrecourt Code Club runs every Wednesday from 3pm to 4.30pm for pupils of Eyrecourt NS.  Pupils learn to code on various platforms beginning with Scratch programming. Hardware such as Micro-bits and LEGO Wedo are used.  The recent purchase of a 3D printer will really enhance Code club going forward. Pupils are working towards the end of year showcase at Coolest Projects. This free club is part of the Raspberry Pi network and is part of the Code Club/Coderdojo worldwide community.

We are very fortunate to have a supportive GAA club and lots of hurling/camogie training available in school and after school.  We enjoy developing those skills further with Gaelic football training after school on Mondays.

It is important to provide a range of sports to our pupils and introducing volleyball in the senior classes gives the pupils an opportunity to enjoy another sport. Pupils train on Tuesday evenings in Eyrecourt Hall and work towards competing in local tournaments.

These activities not only enhance learning but also provide children with opportunities to develop skills that will stay with them for life. At our school, we know that extra-curricular activities are just as important as academic subjects in helping students grow into well-rounded, confident individuals.
