February Newsletter

Dear Parent/Guardian,
We have completed 4 weeks of learning at home and I do believe every one of us deserves a medal! Thank you for your support from home, we know it is not at all easy for parents and the situation is not at all ideal. We are having brilliant engagement through Google Classroom and on the class Zooms.
Unfortunately there is no clear end date for us.  The announcement this week from the Department of Education was for special schools and special classes within mainstream schools.  We have been given no indication of our return date.   A lot will depend on how well the opening of the  special schools and special classes go and the numbers of cases in the community.
For now, all we can do is our best.  Feedback from parents we have spoken to has been good but if there is any issue at all please do not hesitate to contact the class teacher or myself. We are here to help and support as much as we possibly can.
Next Tuesday 9th February is Safer Internet Day. We are all on the internet more than ever.  With bad weather, parents needing space while working from home, lockdown and lack of social interaction, it is totally understandable that our children are on screens a lot this year. We have decided to book workshops with Lurtel.
On Tuesday we will have a 10am workshop for Infants to 2nd class. (45mins)
11:30am we will have a workshop for 3rd-6th class (1 hour with questions and answers)
There will be a talk for parents at 7pm (approx 1 hour with questions and answers)
Pupils will receive their Zoom link from their teacher.
Parents will have to register their place.  Details will be sent on Monday.
Eyrecourt NS Board of Management decided to invest in these workshops this year as we believe they will be of huge benefit to pupils, teachers and parents.  Many parents report they don't know what their child is doing online and don't know how to put safeguards in place. The talk for parents will go through all the apps, games and trends and most importantly how a parent can protect their child while enjoying the internet. We understand it can be difficult to attend Zooms with parents working etc but if you can at all please have your child attend their workshop and register for the parent workshop for yourself.
While pupils will have their basic activities (Mental Maths, spelling etc),Tuesday 9th Feb will be focused solely on internet safety.

The following week we have midterm on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th February. Time for a well deserved rest and recharge!

Finally, it is time to look ahead to September.  We are now taking enrolments for September 2021. For any queries or to request an enrolment form please email [email protected] or leave a voice message on 090 9675362.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend,
Kind regards,
Éilis Treacy
