December Updates
Posted on Thursday, January 01, 1970Dear Parent/Guardian,
Here are some updates that did not make the December newsletter last week.
Swimming
Swimming was held every year in the months of January and February. This was because we have no hall and in those months, it was difficult to have PE outside. We were in lockdown last year for January and it is hard to see how we could have buses going to the swimming pool next month.
So this year we will go swimming in June! We have Birr Swimming Pool booked from Monday 20th to Friday 24th June. We have an afternoon session and it is hoped that we might tie in other activities in the morning to make use of the buses. Along with the difficulties of Covid, the price of buses have risen steeply. Essentially 20th-24th June will be an activity week.
2nd to 6th class will have swimming lessons. Many parents are already bringing their children swimming and getting them used to the water. Try to bring your child to the swimming pool a few times before our school lessons. Let them get used to getting changed and getting in and out of the water. If your child is very apprehensive bring them to a pool like Leisureland in Galway which has fountains and little slides and get them used to playing in the water. The large pool can be daunting for a child, especially if they've never been in a swimming pool before so it's really important parents get their children used to the pool environment.
The junior room won't be attending swimming but they will be having their own "Activity week" in June. We will have a little trip for them too on the bus.
Food Allergies
This year we have a few pupils who are having allergic reactions to certain foods particularly nuts. To support these pupils, we are asking that no nuts would be sent in with your child's lunch and it would be better if we did not have buns or cakes shared between pupils. Any holiday/fun days will have treats provided by the school.
Christmas Jumper Day
Tomorrow, Friday 17th, we have our Christmas Jumper Day. Christmas colours, Christmas themed outfits are all perfect to wear. Please don't feel any pressure to get a Christmas Jumper. The charity we have chosen is Galway Hospice and we are asking for a donation of €2 per pupil.
We are also having a cosy Christmas day and watching the panto Red Riding Hood. Pupils can bring in cushions, their teddy and a soft blanket if they wish.
Many thanks to Eyrecourt NS Parents Association who have provided selection boxes for every pupil to enjoy tomorrow.
If your child is feeling unwell tomorrow or showing any symptoms, please let me know and we can arrange for your child to watch the Panto at home and send home the selection box.
Next week we have our Festive Walk on Tuesday at 1pm followed by the Eyrecourt Christmas Fair. We will have further updates on that on Monday.
Kind regards,
Éilis Treacy
