Easter Cake Sale and Proclamation Day

Posted on Tuesday, March 15, 2016

Today we celebrated Proclamation Day. The weather was perfect, our pupils were superbe and we had a thoroughly enjoyable day.
The first excitement of the day was our Eyrecourt Examiner featured in the Irish Independent.
The cake sale began at 10 am and Mrs Barretts room was a marketplace of cakes, buns, raffle tickets, annuals and Eyrecourt Examiners!
12 o'clock saw us out on the front lawn for the raising of the Irish flag. Pupils explained the background to our chosen songs (Óró sé do bheatha bhaile, Seán South from Garryowen and A nation once again). Caoimhe read an extract of the Proclamation and Jack explained the symbolism of the tricolour before we raised the flag to Amhrán na bhFiann.
Throughout the day the senior classroom guided visitors through the story of the Easter rising and people got a chance to view our 1916 school records.
It was a truly special day, enhanced by the weather but made happen by our wonderful Parents Association, Pupils and Staff.
